Funding Secured to Develop Sustainable Farm & Food Plan Concept

The Sustainable Farm & Food Plan working group successfully secured funding through the Growing Forward 2 Collaborative Grant program, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. In Ontario, GF2 is delivered by the Agricultural Adaptation Council. The application, submitted by the Ontario Federation of Agriculture for $171,294, will support the development of a program plan and solicit commitment from the supply chain to test the Sustainable Food and Farm Plan concept as an Ontario pilot, with a longer term vision to roll out the program nationally.

To inform the project plan and provide a foundation for measuring program outcomes, Deloitte conducted a gap assessment that compared the Environmental Farm Plan and Growing Your Farm Profits programs to 10 national and international sustainability programs. With only a few minor gaps identified, it is believed that these programs can be used as the foundation for the harmonized and holistic Sustainable Farm and Food Plan program. The executive summary can be accessed here.

The Sustainable Farm and Food Plan will build on the accomplishments of comparable initiatives and expand the scope to a whole farm sustainability plan that will support the entire supply chain.

Provision’s Executive Director, Cher Mereweather is a member of the hiring committee who will secure a contract Project Manager to execute this project.
